This morning I finished reading and listening to Allegiant, the third and final novel in the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. If you read the books and saw the first two film adaptations, you’re aware that the films are based on the novels—in some cases, very loosely. That was particularly evident in the film Insurgent.
The other day, I heard that Allegiant would be released as two films. One might assume that the two films would be entitled Allegiant: Part 1 and Allegiant: Part 2. Instead, the two films will be entitled, The Divergent Series: Allegiant and The Divergent Series: Ascendant, with the tagline, “The end is never what you expect.” Hmmmm.
Ascendant? I started thinking about the rest of the Divergent short stories published by Roth. Four, The Traitor, The Transfer, and the Initiate. They don’t really give any clues to the fourth film title, as they are all prequels to the series. Interestingly enough, author Roth states about the two final films, “hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will remain intact, which is really the important thing.”
So the question will be, will she, or won’t she?
